PAFC, PH Embassy launch search for Rizal Awards nominees

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Philippine American Foundation for Charities, Inc. (PAFC), in partnership with the Philippine Embassy have announced the search for the 2017 Annual Dr. Jose Rizal Youth Awards.

The Awards recognize academic excellence and extra-curricular activities, including community service, of outstanding Filipino-American youths in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. region.

PAFC, a nonprofit organization that undertakes education projects, will award outstanding students through its Selection Committee based on criteria outlined in the Awards rules.

The nomination will undergo a two-step process: (1) Nominees will meet the eligibility rules and criteria that emphasize the ideals of Dr. Jose Rizal; and (2) Nominees will submit personal essays on topics based on his or her current grade level and on topics related to Rizal’s life.

The awardees will be revealed in a ceremony led by the Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. or his representative on December 8, 2017, at 6 o’clock in the afternoon, at the Romulo Hall of the Philippine Embassy. Awardees each will receive a certificate of recognition and a medal. Selected awardees will have the honor of reading their award-winning essays at the ceremony.

The Filipino-American community is encouraged to submit their nominations, post-marked, by November 19, 2017. Applicants represent a broad range of Filipino-American students of various age levels.
